Indian farmers and exporters are stopping the sale of cotton, they think
that cotton prices will increase.
Atul Ganatra, President, CAI (Cotton Association of India) said, "Farmers
saw record cotton prices last season, but this year it is impossible as
production has gone up while international prices have come down." The
harvesting of cotton has already started from last month and but the farmers
have kept the cotton crop on hold in the hope that, like last season, cotton
prices will rise this season as well."
A farmer from Gujarat said that he sold cotton last year at Rs.8000/100kg which later increased to Rs.13000/100kg.

So this year they will not sell cotton for less than Rs.10,000/100kg.
Bangladesh, Vietnam and China are the main importers of Indian cotton. Experts say that it is difficult to increase the prices due to high production and low international prices.
