The problems of the farmers is a big challenge for the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in 2014 that the income of the farmers will double as soon as he comes to power, but till now nothing like this has happened.
Last year, the Modi government was pressurized to make changes in the new agriculture bill.

In India, more than 600 farmers have lost their lives by suicide in the state of Maharashtra this year, mostly due to lack of rains in Maharashtra.
Some agricultural experts say, the number of suicides could be higher.
Last year also the number of suicides in Maharashtra state was 805 which is almost same as this year.
65% of the people in Maharashtra are completely dependent on agriculture only or they are dependent on other works related to agriculture.
Due to climate change, there has been a huge reduction in the production of crops and it has also affected the farmers.

Due to low income of farmers, they take loan from the bank and then due to high interest rates and low capital gains, they are forced to commit suicide after development.
About 800000 hectares of standing crops were destroyed due to heavy rains in 24 districts of Maharashtra this year, mostly in Vidarbha and Marathwada regions.

Suicide cases are increasing at the rate of 30 percent

According to the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 5563 agricultural laborers committed suicide last year, this suicide rate is 9% higher than 2020 and 29% suicide rate has increased since 2019.
Maharashtra has the highest number of suicide cases in India at 1424 followed by Karnataka at 999 and Andhra Pradesh at 584.
'It is sad' that the number of farmers' suicides is continuously increasing.
According to experts, if the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) policy of the government can be beneficial for farmers, this benefit can be increased by focusing on less water-intensive crops.

Lack of support from the bank, weather vagaries and price fluctuations are the main reasons for the problem.

Agriculture is the main pillar of India's economy

India is an agrarian country as agriculture has been the economic source of the population for more than 50 years, farmers here are suffering from the brunt of low crop prices and farm related expenses.
Government of India should increase the prices of the crops purchased from the farmers, fix the fixed rate of MSP and increase the MSP rate. Farmers' loans should be waived off, basic steps should be taken to support farmers and increase their income.
