E-shram card is a scheme run by the Ministry of Labor and Employment
for the unorganized workers in the country, in which the database has to
be prepared by enrolling these workers at the national level, so that
the government has a basis for their identity and they get the benefit
of other government schemes.
E-shram Portal
National Informatics Center (NIC), being a technology partner, develops
and manages the e-shram portal, so that workers can be given a unique
identity, benefits of employment and other government schemes, and an
identity database of workers has been created.
Objective of E-shram Card Scheme
- To give identity base to construction workers, migrated workers, platform workers, street vendors, domestic workers and agricultural farmers etc.
- On getting a unique identity, workers can be traced where they are working, which schemes they are getting benefits from, and they can be given benefits in times of calamities like covid.
- The state government will connect with them so that they can be provided employment at the places where work is needed.

- Migrant worker.
- Gig and platform worker.
- To install Street vendors.
- To install construction worker.
- Domestic workers.
- Agricultural workers.
- And other unorganised workers.
Any person who is an unorganized worker between the age of 16-59 years can
register themselves on the E-shram portal.
The portal has been made to register more than 40 crore workers.
Each worker can generate a Unique Account Number (UAN) and UAN card
anywhere, anytime and download it.
